Abstract
The current study aims to explore the prevalence of PTSD-depression comorbidity in North Korean refugees, and examine the association between comobidity status and suicide attempts. This study used 300 cases of data from 'A study on human violation trauma of North Korean refugees', which is conducted by National Human Rights Commission of Korea in 2017. The main results are as follows. First, PTSD-depression comorbidity status was categorized into four groups based on cutoff scores; "control group (neither PTSD nor depression', 45.3%, n=136)", "comorbidity group (41.7%, n=125)", "PTSD group (10.0%, n=30)", and "depression group (3.0%, n=9)". Second, risk of suicide attempts in each PTSD and comorbidity group was each 8.08, 17.90 times higher than the control group even after accounting for control variables such as demographic factors, other mental health risk factors. However, depression group did not show the significant difference. Based on the results, trauma informed care (TIC) and transdiagnostic Processes for PTSD-depression comorbidity was suggested for preventing suicide attempts in North Korean refugees.
